Northside man jailed after a knife fight with brother over $40

After a drunken fight over $40 a man chased his brother down the street with a hunting knife.

At 1.30am on July 18 the 24-year-old man, who cannot be named, and his brother were drunk in their home with their mother.

The brothers got into an argument over $40 and the 24-year-old pulled out a large hunting knife. His brother ran to the kitchen where he grabbed a kitchen knife to defend himself.

Their mother tried to break the two up and the brother fled the house but the man chased him down the street still holding the hunting knife.

The man was on a domestic violence order regarding his actions towards his brother that is to run until 2024.

Police arrived at the street and the brother claimed he had been stabbed but he had not been but had a dislocated shoulder as well as bruises and scratches.

Police found the hunting knife in a yard and searched the 24-year-old man finding 15 grams of cannabis in his pants pocket.

He was placed in a cell where he repeatedly urinated and spat on the walls.

During the incident he also lined up and shoulder charged a police officer.

The man pleaded guilty at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court to charges including breaching a domestic violence order, possessing dangerous drugs, assaulting police and damaging police property.

The court heard the man, who has been diagnosed with Asperger’s, has been in custody for 47 days since the incident.

He does not remember the fight due to his level of intoxication but accepts

He was sentenced to four months prison and released on parole immediately, fined $300 with a conviction recorded.
