Man sentenced after purposely not scanning items at self-service checking

Not scanning $20 worth of groceries at a self-service checkout has cost a man 20 times that amount at court.
Craig Wayne Blakey, 37, pleaded guilty at Sandgate Magistrates Court to stealing groceries from Coles Chermside.

The court heard on 18 December, 2019 Blakey took his groceries through a self-service checkout where he purposely did not pay for some of the products.
When he was approached he voluntarily admitted the $19.40 worth of products he had not paid for. The goods were recovered and able to be resold.
The court heard Blakey has a lengthy history of dishonesty offences and a history of drug addiction.
He told the court he had been taking part in programs to help him stay clean of drugs.
He was fined $400.
