The identity of the pedestrian killed in a tragic crash after being hit by a car in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley has been revealed as his family and friends rally to give the man the farewell “he deserves”.
Malcolm Kruger died while crossing near the Water St and Brunswick St intersection about 2pm on March 27.
He was struck by a car and suffered critical injuries before dying at the scene.
Residents and commuters who saw the incident were left shocked.
Mr Kruger, 20, lived in Fortitude Valley but was originally from Geelong in Victoria.
In the weeks since the tragedy his friends and family have started GoFundMe pages to help cover the cost of his funeral, which was believed to be next month.
“I’m trying to raise funds for the funeral of my special friend Malcolm that was hit by a car and passed away in Fortitude Valley. He was only 20 years old,” Stacey Carroll said on one of the GoFundMe pages set up for Mr Kruger.
“He was a funny guy who was always there when you needed help. He will be sadly missed. “I’m trying to raise funds so I can give him a funeral he deserves.
“All money I raised will go in a bank account that I have set up. I will take out the money and go give it to the funeral parlour I have chosen and put my friend to rest and say my final goodbye.”
Mr Kruger’s dad, Eric, also put a call out on a GoFundMe page of his own to help get his son back to Victoria where he could be buried with his family.
The fundraising target for both pages is $20,000.
The driver of the vehicle was not physically injured in the incident.
