A Brisbane man, who had been drinking for more than three hours before flipping his car while disqualified from driving, says he is lucky to be alive after recalling the scary accident in court.

Keperra resident, Harley John Crawford pleaded guilty in the Pine Rivers Magistrate Court for drink driving with a disqualified licence on September 2.

The court heard the 21-year-old was driving home from a friends place on Bunyan Rd, when he lost control of the vehicle causing his car to become airborne and flipping several times before landing on its roof.

Mr Crawford escaped the crash with major injuries, including a dislocated ankle and damaged ribs, while the passenger was not injured.

Police arrived at the scene of the crash just five minutes after the accident before conducting a breath analysis, where Mr Crawford blew an alcohol reading of 0.051 per cent.

The court heard Mr Crawford was compliant with police, admitted to drinking since 2pm and knew he had a disqualified licence.

He also admitted to taking a tablet from a friend for a headache, which he later realised was a epileptic treatment drug.

“Never ever take something from someone unless you know what it is,” Magistrate Ho said.

Mr Crawford said he regretted his decision to drive.

“I’ve seen the photos of the accident and I’m very, very lucky to have lived I know,” he said.

“I’m very glad to have walked away from that crash.”

Mr Crawford's parents also attended the scene of the accident shortly after police and had seen the horror state of the vehicle.

“You can’t see the reaction I can see from your parents but I can see how traumatic it was for them,” Magistrate Ho said.

Mr Crawford was convicted, given a nine-month probation order and ordered to participate in mandatory drivers counselling.
