Green Space New Farm: Popular plant store to open new cafe and shop on James St, Fortitude Valley

The owners of a garden business and cafe have made Brisbane plant-lovers’ dreams come true with the revelation of a permanent new premises in Fortitude Valley after their pop-up shop success.

Inner Brisbane development projects

An official home for a hit inner-Brisbane nursery has been revealed as owners seek approvals from Brisbane City Council for their new multi-faceted business.

Having enjoyed months of success after launching a pop-up shop at 49 James St, Fortitude Valley, in June last year, Green Space New Farm now plans to open a permanent home on the same street.

A development application was put before the council this week seeking approval to turn a vacant store at 27 James St — formerly an outlet for iconic Australian fashion label Akira and — into a shop and cafe/deli and event space.

The new business would share a swanky location within the James St Fashion and Lifestyle Precinct, joining a range of high-profile retailers including West Elm, Pottery Barn, Gerards Bistro, Camilla and neighbour Endota Spa.

The application seeks to turn the retail and office space into a shop with a deli and florist, with a plant retail space and alfresco dining outside.

Four carparking spaces would be converted to create “garden room dining with display plants for purchase”.

The application comes after an announcement from Green Space New Farm in January, where the popular business revealed it would open a permanent establishment nearby to its original, temporary James St premises.

“Our new location simply called The Green will include an even bigger selection of pots, plants and homewares as well as a Middle Eastern inspired restaurant, event space and flower bar.”
