Big plans for a new dining, hotel and entertainment precinct could transform a key site next to two of Brisbane’s most iconic sporting destinations.
A development application has been lodged with Brisbane City Council for the project at 31 Collingwood St, Albion, which aims to include a microbrewery, hotel and coffee roastery.
The site — to fit in alongside the suburb’s industrial area — had previously been home several organisations including the Australian Dance Performance Institute and the now defunct Brisbane Ballet School and will retain existing space used for a gym.
It is also within walking distance to favourite Brisbane sporting venues Brother’s Rugby Club and Allan Border Field.
A proposal for a microbrewery and roastery was initially approved by the council in April last year however more plans have been added to the project currently known as Craft’d Grounds.
In total, the site could accommodate a maximum of 444 patrons in its food, beverage and function areas, which would entail a mix of indoor and outdoor dining.
According to the application, most visitors were expected to use public transport, active transport and ride-shares to get to the venue, limiting the need for large amounts of parking.
The hotel at the site is expected to operate until midnight Monday to Sunday while the micro-brewery is anticipated to make 180,000 and 200,000 litres per year.
It comes as plans were revealed last year for a $200m overhaul of Hudson Common into a business and community hub, supported by convenient and boutique retail and residential apartments, which — along with a $750 million Albion train station revamp — signalled the changing face of the suburb.
