Buffet restaurant, Jayliano’s Brookside, has closed its doors “effective immediately”

A popular north Brisbane buffet has announced an abrupt closure leaving diners shocked.

Customers have been left shocked after a popular restaurant on Brisbane’s northside announced its immediate closure.

Jayliano’s Brookside Steak and Seafood restaurant is renowned for its “all you can eat” buffet.

The restaurant at Mitchelton first opened in 2019 and is part of a chain of restaurants run by the Lay family.

According to the Jayliano’s website, the family owned business boasts a 17-year background in hospitality, having owned and operated buffet restaurants in the Northern Territory.

The restaurant on Osborne Road took to social media on Tuesday to make the announcement.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we would like to announce that our Brookfield store will be closed effective immediately, until further notice,” the post stated.

“Jayliano’s will be refocusing our resources into our Strathpine store to make sure our family and friends still receive the best possible buffet experience.

“Please note that Jayliano’s Strathpine and all our Ariala branches including Kippa Ring and Springwood will still be trading as usual.

“Thank you to our Jayliano’s and Ariala family for your ongoing support and sticking by us.”

While the post didn’t go into what caused the closure, it has been met with an outpouring of support.

Hundreds of comments from devastated diners flooded in promising to support the chain’s other businesses.

Catherine Rolfe wrote: “So sorry to hear this guys, you were a great establishment and wonderful team.”

“We will still support your other stores.”

“That’s so sad to see another business suffering from Covid and lockdowns,” Kevin Henshaw wrote.

The Lay family also operates a Jayliano’s at Strathpine and Ariala restaurants at Kippa-Ring and Springwood.

The restaurants offering diners an opportunity to tuck into an “all you can eat” wide range of western, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, including salads, seafood, stir-fry dishes, pasta, roast, vegetables, steak and homemade desserts.

The Springwood buffet only recently opened its doors with a capacity of 320 patrons.

The restaurant at the Sentinel Group Australia’s high-exposure retail complex, The Centre @ Springwood begun taking customers in July.

It takes up a massive 1008 sqm tenancy in the prominently positioned retail centre on Lexington Rd at Underwood, which Sentinel bought in February, 2014, for $14.925 million.

Ariala owner Maria Lay said at the time the family was delighted to have opened at Sentinel, adding to the business.

The news comes after a difficult two years with the three northside restaurants forced to shut due to the Covid-19.

“It is incredibly hard for us to accept and while we have not experienced any cases, the safety of our customers and staff is our highest priority,” a statement from the restaurant’s management at the time said.

Jayliano’s was contacted for comment.
