A food fight is under way on Brisbane’s southside where the buffet is back.
Brisbane’s Lay family opened its fourth buffet restaurant on the border of Underwood and Springwood, bucking a trend away from group dining during Covid.
For $38.50, diners at Ariala can tuck into an “all you can eat” wide range of western, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, including salads, seafood, stir-fry dishes, pasta, roast, vegetables, steak and homemade desserts.
Ariala will rival the area’s other buffet, The Springwood Hotel’s Feast Buffet, which offers soups, roasted meats, pizza, pasta, Asian dishes, fresh salads, and dessert and only costs $32.
The Springwood Hotel said it was aware of the new restaurant and was hoping it would not take away from its business, which had picked up after the Sizzler buffet shut in nearby Loganholme in 2020.
It will also add to the flavour of the area rising as a southside gourmet mecca after a $16 million overhaul of nearby Springwood Mall and a $15 million facelift for the Arndale Centre.
The Lay family opened its first Ariala at Kippa-Ring in 2018 and second at Mitchelton in 2019 after starting out with Jayliano’s steak and seafood restaurant at Strathpine on Brisbane’s northside in 2016.
The new Springwood restaurant, which has a capacity of 320 patrons, opened at Sentinel Group Australia’s high-exposure retail complex, The Centre @ Springwood in July.
It takes up a massive 1008 sqm tenancy in the prominently positioned retail centre on Lexington Rd at Underwood, which Sentinel bought in February, 2014, for $14.925 million.
It is hoped the new restaurant will bridge a gap in the market left after the closure of Sizzler at nearby Hyperdome in 2020.
Ariala owner Maria Lay said the family was delighted to have opened at Sentinel, adding to the business.
“It embraces the same flavours and tastes that we are incredibly passionate about,” she said.
“We have had a tremendous response from the public and are excited to bring them a taste of our culture and passion.”
The Centre @ Springwood is prominently positioned on the corner of Logan Road and Lexington Ave, and highly visible from the Pacific Motorway.
The property has a diverse and complementary tenancy mix including Goodlife Health Clubs, Burbank Homes, Stanford Swim Schools, Lollipops Playland and Veterinary Specialist Services.
The centre comprises three separate buildings with a total lettable area of 10,316 sqm and Ariala has taken out a 10-year lease.
Established in 2010, Brisbane-based Sentinel has a national portfolio of more than 55 retail, industrial, office, land, tourism infrastructure and agribusiness assets with a total value in excess of $1.2 billion.
