A baby girl, born so tiny her feet are no bigger than her parents’ thumbs, has instantly captured their hearts after she was born weighing just 600g.

Freya Curry has a foot the size of her father’s toe nail, smaller than a her mother’s thumb, but despite her fragility she is the centrepiece of her parents’ hearts.

The baby girl, born at just 29 weeks gestation and so tiny she was classified as a “micropreemie”, opened her eyes on Christmas Eve to meet Brisbane parents Lauren Miller and Cameron Curry — giving her already devoted parents a Christmas miracle.

“I can’t believe she’s mine and she’s here,” mum Lauren said.

Freya spent her first Christmas at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital in a humidicrib in the Neonatal Nursing Intensive Care Unit while her mum Ubered her express milk in from home at Arana Hills.

Her parents brightened up her room with Christmas decorations to get into the spirit of the festive occasion.

Freya, Lauren and Cameron’s first child, weighed just 632g and was born during a loud storm via an emergency C-section, which is fitting with her name meaning ‘battle north Goddess’.

Lauren was rushed into the operating theatre after it was discovered the placenta was dying then doctors gave the tiny tot steroids to develop her lungs.

Freya has now grown to 825g and 31cm, about the size of a Subway sandwich.

Freya is still on breathing equipment and her parents realised they didn’t know what she looked like without it on.

Family friend Adelle Rutch set up a GoFundMe page after Lauren lost her job as a support worker in aged care.

The fundraising campaign has raised more than $6000 thus far to help cover the parents’ medical expenses, potential surgery for Freya and transport costs.

“It takes a village to raise a child so I hope the community rallies behind this family,” she said.

“The couple’s family and support network largely reside in Sydney.

“While baby Freya is doing okay, she has inflamed bowel, had a central feeding line put in because she wasn’t getting nutrients and there is an increased risk of infection.

“Freya is snuggled up in her special crib and set to remain there until March this year.”
