Fonzie Abbott was a popular coffee roaster for years until late 2018 when they expanded their Fox St outlet into a brewery and later began distilling award-winning gin.

Under the name Craft’d Grounds the new development will brew up to 200,000 litres of beer every year and roast 150,000 kgs of coffee beans.

A commercial kitchen will be constructed in the building’s upper level that will cook “baked goods, pastries and other foods for offsite catering”.

The development application states three batches of 1000 litres of beer will be able to be brewed every week.

The approved redesign inside the existing building plans to keep the building’s existing indoor sport area from the building’s days as a dance studio.

Because of the flood risk at the site, brewing gear will have to be installed higher than the minimum flood immunity level.
