A man allegedly caught using drugs in a Hungry Jacks car park has told police why he did not want to use at home.

A man allegedly caught in a Hungry Jacks car park using drugs has told a court he did not want to use around his newly sober girlfriend.

Steven James Lawson applied for bail at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He faces 11 charges including possessing dangerous drugs, possessing used drug utensils, possessing restricted drugs, possessing property suspected of being used in connection with a drug offence and failing to properly dispose of a needle or syringe.

He also has more serious charges before the Brisbane Supreme Court.

The court heard Mr Lawson was arrested in a car parked in the Hungry Jacks on Anzac Ave in Kallangur.

Mr Lawson’s lawyer Andrew Bale told the court his client’s partner was clean for the first time in 16 years and Mr Lawson did not want to use around her.

Police then searched their Murrumba Downs home where they allegedly found drugs in a garbage bin and utensils in the house.

Magistrate Melanie Ho told the court due to his age Mr Lawson was unlikely to spend significant time in jail on the charges.

Mr Lawson was granted bail on the condition he report to police station three times every week and undergo a rehab program.
