A 20-year-old serial offender was busted for trying to steal a luxury car in Brisbane’s north sending the young man back to the slammer.

A serial offender from Brisbane’s north has today been sentenced to nine months in prison after he was busted trying to break into a car in Northgate.

Sandgate Magistrates Court heard Keera Power, who at the time was just 20-years-old, was captured on CCTV footage arriving at a home at Cook St with his co-accused.

Power appeared via videolink from the Woodford Correctional Facility and pleaded guilty to a single charge of attempting to enter a premises with an intent to commit an indictable offence.

Footage showed the defendant and his co-accused arriving at the victim’s home shortly after midnight on March 23.

The co-accused is alleged to have worn gloves, carried a crow bar and attempted to enter the home, while Power stood beside a silver Audi sedan.

The court heard the pair were unable to gain entry to the home and left in the Audi.

Police originally charged Power with two additional charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and acts intended to cause harm, but these were later dropped during case conferencing.

The court heard Power’s involvement “extended to standing near a parked car, trying to gain entry to the vehicle” but was an “attempt only, as no property was stolen”.

Power, who has been “in and out of prison” for many years, was subject to three parole orders at the time of the offence.

He was convicted and sentenced to nine months imprisonment with immediate eligibility for parole, given his time served since his arrest on April 21.
