Brisbane model blames bad break up for stealing hundreds of dollars worth of homewares

Self-care became self-destructive for a young model who stole multiple items from a Myer store, a court has heard, as the young model told what led her to make the “out of character” decision.

Self-care became self-destructive for a young Brisbane model who stole fresh bed sheets, a scented candle and hand sanitiser from Myer, the Sandgate Magistrates Court heard today.

Tamblyn Models’ Bonnie Skea, 20, was going through a bad break up when she made the “out of character” decision to take $360 worth of homewares without paying for them.

Bonnie Skea made off with $360 of homewares from Myer Chermside, but quickly returned them when confronted.

Police prosecutor sergeant Troy Newman said loss prevention officers witnessed Skea take the items just before midday on August 1.

“(She was) concealing the items in her shopping bag then failed to pay when leaving the store,” Sgt Newman said.

“When confronted she made full admissions and said she didn’t have any money to pay for the items.”

The court heard Bonnie Skea had been going through a tough time when she made the spur of the moment decision to walk out of Myer Chermside without paying.

The lawyer for the defence told the court Skea, who works four jobs and studied both physics and aviation, was having a bad day after having just gone through a tough break up.

“She had the money, she doesn’t know why she did it, she just walked out,” he said.

Skea returned the items immediately and no restitution was sought.

She was put on a good behaviour bond of $400 for six months and no conviction was recorded.
