A major brand has plans to tear down three houses to construct a chic 173 room hotel in Chermside, according to a development application lodged with the Brisbane City Council this week.
The proposal put forward by the planners at Mewing Planning Consultants is ideally situated at 523 Hamilton Rd for visitors, outpatients and medical professionals seeking proximity to the adjacent Prince Charles Hospital, which recently received $3 million of state government funding to expand its patient capacity.

The eight-storey building would be the first short-term accommodation provider to offer hotel suites, rather than self-contained apartments, to those seeking to stay in Chermside.
“There is a need for the development,” said the planners, contracted on behalf of Kedron Barr Pty Ltd.
“There are very few short-term accommodation options within Brisbane outside of the inner city area and airport.
“It presents the opportunity to broaden the short-term offering in proximity to … (many) other services (such as) the nearby Wheller Gardens Retirement Village and schools.”
Architects at Cottee Parker, also responsible for major Brisbane projects such as the Breakfast Creek lifestyle precinct, headed up the design.
A number of facilities are featured in the development plans, including a cafe, function spaces, pool, gym, a lush rooftop recreation space and a manager’s office.
Large subtropical trees, screen planting, green walls and ground cover will take up over 400m2 of the 1950m2 site.
The proposal has yet to be approved by the Brisbane City Council.
