The Pine Rivers Swans will hold its 50th anniversary on May 30 which has left its young committee awed at the responsibility.

“It is very exciting and a little bit daunting at the same time,” club president Mitchell Clemett said.

“We have a fair challenge ahead of us.

“You don’t want to let anyone down.

“We are a young committee so we are keen for help from older club members.

“Their assistance would go a long way to help us capture as much of our history as we can.”

The president urged current and past members with photos, memorabilia or any other remembrances to contact the club.

“We want everyone who has ever touched the footy club in any way to be there and to help reinvigorate it,” Clemett said.

“And we want to recapture the history of it with some of the older members who may have been forgotten about over the years.”

The club is set to launch its 2020 season at 6pm on March 7 at Rob Akers Reserve.

“We feel pretty good about the upcoming season,” Clemett said.

“We’ve done some recruiting in the men’s space and a couple of new coaches have been confirmed.

“Hopefully the higher level players coming in can help push us up the ladder. It’s been a tough couple of years.

“We also have a new women’s player coach in Mel McPhee who’s come across from Sandgate with a couple of players.

“The women made the finals the last two years and can hopefully get to the big dance this year.”

Glenn Kendall will return as senior coach and club life member and past player Cade Fulford will serve as assistant coach.

Clemett said the club, which has recently signed multiple new sponsors, was particularly keen to bolster junior player numbers and urged boys and girls aged five to 12 to have a go.

“Our numbers have grown again with a lot of new players turning up from interstate,” he said.

“We are hoping our juniors, which have had a rebuild over the past three years, will continue to grow in numbers.”
