A RUGBY tournament for the “fast and furious” is just around the corner.
The inaugural Summit Sevens Youth Rugby Sevens tournament kicks off on February 7 and is touted by organisers to be the largest youth rugby sevens event ever held in Australia, with 1,400 players from Under 12 to Under 20 set to take the field.

With a tournament motto of “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” and a $30,000 prize pool up for grabs the competition is expected to be fast and furious, said organiser and Supporto Sports director Andrew Bianchi.
“We are extremely excited to offer the event,” Mr Bianchi said.
“It is unique in that it is open to club, school and independent teams as opposed to the 15s format.
“Junior teams from the state’s rural regions will now have more of an opportunity to take part in sevens tournament play.
“Being separate tournaments rather than a season-run competition allows for teams to play in all three tournaments or just one based on their availability.
“And having both youth boys and girls participating makes it extra special.”
Hosted at the Peterson Rd sports grounds in Morayfield on February 7-9, 21-23 and March 6-8, games will be limited to 14 minutes.
And visitors can track the action on a big screen while choosing from a number of different food vendors.

Mr Bianchi said interest in the tournament, sponsored by Summit Global, Supporto Sports and Active Hire Mango Hill, has been promising.
“Being able to bring local, interstate and international players together in the Moreton Bay region is especially rewarding,” he said.
“And feedback from local teams has been very positive, with many stating it is great that there is another option in developing players and giving back to the sport.
“It is hoped that this initiative will keep juniors playing rugby sevens and building on participation numbers in the sport.”
