James Scott Fleming: North Lakes dad faces court after drugs found at home

A father of six has been hauled before the courts after police uncovered steroids and cannabis at the family home at North Lakes.

A father of six says he’s had ‘a real wake up call’ after facing court on five drug-related charges.

James Scott Fleming, 46, pleaded guilty to all charges including possessing dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of restricted drugs in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard officers attended an address at North Lakes on August 6 after a concerned phone call.

Police prosecutor Graham Turner told the court officers were approached by a young person and told Fleming had been yelling at a woman, calling her a ‘dog’.

“It was further alleged to officers that he (Fleming) smokes weed every night and misuses steroids,” he said.

“Police asked if there were any drugs inside the dwelling and the female indicated there was and showed the police steroids.

James Scott Fleming pleaded guilty to several drugs related charges in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court.

“The female further showed officers a small quantity of cannabis in a container in their shared bathroom.”

The court then heard Fleming told police “he didn’t use steroids any more”.

Fleming’s lawyer told Magistrate Annette Hennessy it had been a “significant” amount of time since her client had been in any “real trouble”.

“He is a father of six … the eldest is 18 and the youngest is 11,” she said.

“He tells me it’s been a good wake up call for him not to slip back into any criminal behaviour.

“He’s been seeing a counsellor and he’s been clean for four weeks.”

Ms Hennessy said she took into account Fleming’s early plea of guilty.

He was convicted and fined $750 for the drugs charges.

Fleming told the Magistrate he regretted it “fully”.

“It's a mistake I wish never happened,” he said.
