A man who went on an alleged violent rampage that began with the theft of a lolly jar has been denied his bid for freedom.
Kingston man Damien Luke Pearce, 28, appeared in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court via video link and applied for bail.
Pearce is facing 11 charges including armed robbery, enter premises and commit indictable offence, stealing and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle
It’s alleged at about 9.30am on Sunday, September 5, Mr Pearce stole a lolly jar from a bus driver at Gympie Road at Lawnton.
Police alleged Pearce had been travelling on the bus and stole the lolly jar after getting into a verbal argument with the driver.
It is alleged that Pearce then entered a nearby coffee shop, went behind the staff counter and allegedly removed a knife and cream canister before leaving the store.
A short time later, Pearce allegedly demanded a man’s car keys as he exited his vehicle on Gympie Road at Lawnton.
The man refused and his phone was stolen.
Pearce then allegedly fled to a nearby service station where he opened the drivers door of a vehicle parked at a fuel bowser.
He fled when confronted by the owner of the vehicle, when he then allegedly used the stolen cream canister to smash the sliding doors of the service station.
The blow caused a small crack in the glass before jumping over the counter.
Emergency services were called and arrested Pearce inside the service station.
Duty lawyer Shaun Kolo said Pearce was willing to adhere to bail conditions.
Magistrate Annette Hennessy denied the application.
“Mr Pearce, (I’m) not prepared to grant you bail under the circumstances of the serious allegations for the robbery charge,” she said.
Pearce interjected asking “what robbery charge?”.
“I didn’t even commit a robbery,” he said.
He was remanded in custody with a brief of evidence to be prepared by October 25.
The matter is next due to be heard in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on November 8.
