Netball and baseball players will score three new facilities at Bray Park, Kippa-Ring and Brendale, with local sport high on the agenda in the Moreton Bay region this year.
A $4.5 million netball clubhouse will be built at Les Hughes Sports Complex in Bray Park for the Pine Rivers Netball Association, servicing existing courts.
Detailed designs were scheduled for completion mid-year.
The clubhouse would be completed before December, 2026 and would house junior and senior school competitions and Netball Queensland events.
The facility would replace the 40-year-old building, which has been used by 2000 members and their families every weekend for matches and through the week for training.
Pine Rivers Netball Association president Rachelle Swan said 11 local netball clubs and schools would benefit from the redevelopment of the grounds and clubhouse.
“It creates a cleaner and safer environment for players of the game who want to thrive in the sport,” she said.
“The new building will present better facilities for our staff, spectators and volunteers.
“It’s great seeing all our hard work come to fruition over the last 10 years.”
Talobilla Park Softball Clubhouse in Kippa-Ring was also in line for a $4.5 million upgrade to take it up to regional association standard.
The Redcliffe Leagues Softball Association has earmarked it for design completion mid-year.
The upgrade to Talobilla Park would make it one of the best in Australia for softball and baseball.
Council would also build a new $550,000 amenities building at South Pine Sports Complex in Brendale so the community could access equipment for use at the sports fields.
About 10,000 people played various sports within the South Pine Sports Complex each week.
The upgrades were made possible after Council received $1.5 million in funding from the Federal Government through the Investing in Our Communities program.
The funding was for the construction phase of the project, expected to take place for the 2024-26 financial years.
Mayor Peter Flannery said he was dedicated to providing residents with the best possible community sporting facilities.
“The region has a strong track record of having some of the best community sporting facilities in southeast Queensland but we’re not resting on our laurels,” he said.
“Sport is an important social connector for our community and provides invaluable health benefits and cohesion.
“The more Council invests into facilities, the more we empower our local clubs to deliver high quality sport and recreation services to our residents and visitors.
“It also supports our goals to develop and raise the profile of women’s sport in the region by increasing participation across all sports in our city.”
