A young Brisbane hoon was caught doing burnouts in a suburban street with three teen passengers and an open bottle of alcohol inside.
Lachlan Jay McMahon, 21, blamed peer pressure and boredom for his night of hooning and drink driving that landed him in court.
The Zarraffa’s Coffee barista pleaded guilty at Pine Rivers Court on Wednesday to contravening a police direction and drink driving charges.
Police pulled over the P-plater after seeing him doing burnouts in the grass off a suburban street at Mango Hill about midnight on February 25.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Andrea Ford told the court police had found an open bottle of alcohol in the car’s centre console with McMahon also telling officers he did not have his licence on him at the time.
Sergeant Ford said McMahon told police he blamed peer pressure and boredom for his actions.
Three other occupants aged 15, 16 and 18 were also in the car at the time.
Magistrate Ross Woodford said hoon driving was unacceptable.
“It’s completely unacceptable that these hoons get around the streets driving like that, they’ll kill someone one day if they haven’t already.”
McMahon was fine $400 for failing to produce his provisional licence as well as a $700 fine and six-month disqualification for drink driving. No conviction was recorded.
