A prisoner has been charged with the murder of a fellow inmate after a suspicious death at a correctional centre north of Brisbane.

Detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit charged a 34-year-old prisoner following the death of Filip Grbavac, 42, at the Woodford Correctional Centre in about 7pm on February 2.

Grbavac was found unresponsive with serious head injuries inside his cell around 6.50pm on February 2.

He was among four people charged over the murder in 2022 of Lachlan Griffiths, 34, and had been awaiting trial.

Mr Griffiths, from Indooroopilly, was last seen at the Meriton Suites on Herschel Street in Brisbane’s CBD on the morning of January 16, 2022.

He was reported missing on January 26 by his mother who became concerned when he did not contact her.

After a statewide appeal for information, detectives formally charged Grbavac with murder a few weeks later.

Mr Griffiths’ body has never been found.

A 34-year-old prisoner from the centre has been charged with one count of murder over Grbavac’s death and is due to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Police have been assisted by the Queensland Corrective Services during the investigation.
