Knives have been seized and two people have been charged after a police crackdown on anti-social behaviour at a train station north of Brisbane.
The wanding operation at Morayfield Rail Station conducted by Moreton District’s Tactical Crime Squad between March 4 and 8 saw four knives seized.
Police wanded 32 people, conducted 35 street checks and charged two men following the operation.
A 41-year-old Morayfield man was charged with possession of a knife in a public place and is due to appear at the Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 24 after police allegedly found two knives in his possession.
A 33-year-old Morayfield man was charged with possession of a knife in a public place and is due to appear at the Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 9 after police allegedly found a knife in his backpack.
A 24-year-old Brighton man was allegedly found in possession of a knife but he voluntarily gave up the knife and was only issued a caution.
Moreton TCS Acting Sergeant Ian Auld said high visibility policing and community engagement aided in deterring crime and anti-social behaviour.
“Throughout the week we have seen a noticeable improvement in the behaviour and attitudes being displayed by young people,” he said.
“While most people do the right thing, it’s disappointing that we’re still seeing weapons carried within our public transport hubs.
“Public safety is our number one priority and there is never a good reason to be carrying a knife in a public place.”
