The family of a young motorcyclist who died in a tragic crash north of Brisbane has given heartbreaking tributes after the accident, with his mum saying her world was “shattered and broken”.
Social media has been flooded with tributes to Murrumba Downs man Lachy Azzopardi, who was killed after the multi-vehicle crash at Caboolture on July 5.
Initial investigations indicated a collision happened between Mr Azzopardi’s motorcycle and a 4WD about 3.40pm while travelling north on the Bruce Highway.
His motorcycle then collided with another vehicle travelling in the same direction.
The 26-year-old suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
His family announced Mr Azzopardi’s death on social media earlier today (July 6).
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Lachlan Azzopardi passed away yesterday afternoon,” a post from Christian Azzopardi said.
“Beloved Son, brother, uncle and mate. The support that everyone has given us has really showed how many people love Lachlan and how many lives he impacted in his short time with us.
“We will update you all for the formal celebration of Lachlan’s life and to remember all the great memories we all got to share with him.”
His mum, Di Peterson, also shared a special tribute following the tragic news.
“Fly high darling boy. My world is beyond shattered and broken. Not sure how the world will work now that you got your angel wings way too early,” she wrote.
“(The) world is less bright without you but heaven gained an amazing angel.”
“You are so loved and I am so f******* proud of what you achieved. Till we meet again my beautiful boy.”
The impact Mr Azzopardi made on his group of friends and the community was evident in the huge amount of tributes after the crash.
“Rest in Peace to one of the greats, words can’t describe how much you’ll be missed brother,’’ one of them read.
“You were such a great brother, friend, son and sibling. Even sitting here writing this in tears thinking to myself this can’t be real, fly high brother and party hard up in the heaven.’’
Another wrote: “Lachy Azzopardi, rest easy brother. You were one of a kind and I’m glad I got to know you the way I do, gonna miss you mate.’’
No one else was injured and police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam vision to come forward.
The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate.
