Plans have been lodged to transform a vacant warehouse and office space on a busy Moreton Bay road into a training centre for future tradies.

The Australian Trade Training College (ATTC) intends to relocate from its Banyo facility to 36 Kremzow Road, Brendale, lodging a development application to take over the vacant site.

The ATTC would train local apprentices and trainees across several traditional trade areas through workshop-based practical activities, as well as classroom-based theory learning.

The first level office, amenities and lunch room of the 2600 sqm building will be used for staff administration.

The ground floor offices and amenities will be used for student training.

The ground floor warehouse areas will be used for hands on training of mechanical and tool components in a controlled environment and another existing warehouse will be used for storage requirement, including storage of the 1.1m3 bulk bins, bicycle parking and lockers.

The training facility will operate during standard business hours of Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm.

The facility will accommodate 15 staff, made up of qualified tradespeople and business support staff.

Based on estimates at the ATTC’s Banyo college, there would be 30 students at any given time.

“It is recognised services delivered at the facility are reflective of current industry-based practices and skills needs local to the area which will contribute to the ongoing development of people from the local area to meet current and future labour market needs,” the application reads.

“Brendale is identified as a major location for enterprise and employment.

“The proposal will provide increased employment opportunities to support the economy and wider services to the meet the community’s needs.”

The ATTC also has a training college at Scarborough and other locations in Brisbane.

The current 32 parking spaces will be maintained.
