The developers behind Eatons Hill and Sandstone Point hotels have today announced construction of a giant hotel and shopping precinct, generating more than 200 jobs.

The developers of Sandstone Point Hotel will roll out a $50 million development in the heart of a Moreton Bay town.

Developers Comiskey have released plans for the Dakabin Hotel and Shopping Precinct, saying construction is to begin in 2023.

Dakabin will be transformed, with a 2500 sqm shopping centre, a boutique village with a swathe of new stores, including cafes and a gym, across 3.75ha.

The development will sit adjacent to Alma and Old Gympie roads.

The plans include space for a Guzman Y Gomez and KFC drive thru as well as a NightOwl store and service station.

Director Rob Comiskey hoped the community would be excited to see more dining options closer to home.

“We are focusing on the food, looking to support locally grown produce where possible and deliver the unexpected to diners,” Mr Comiskey said.

“It’s going to be a unique hotel in offering and design, we’re meeting with architects to ensure it makes a statement.”

The development will expand access to shops and services for the residents of Dakabin and surrounds, as well as a boost to employment opportunities.

“Dakabin Hotel itself will employ over 50 staff across both full-time and casual positions, and the overall centre should see 250 job opportunities," Mr Comiskey said.

The Dakabin Hotel would include a restaurant, bar, gaming room and children’s playground as well as a large outdoor area.

The Comiskey Group had had their eyes on the property for years and Mr Comiskey was excited when it went to market.

“The drawcard really was the site’s corner position on two major roads, as well as its close proximity to North Lakes,” Mr Comiskey said.

“The high-volume location is a convenient place for the community to come, allowing for great exposure of our tenants.

“We are always on the hunt for opportunities in high growth areas and this was definitely one we couldn’t let pass us by.”

The announcement arrives off the back of a major hotel, festival site, and entertainment venue by the Comiskey Group.

The Sunshine Coast‘s Aura Community is a $35 million development which is set to be the Sunshine Coast’s largest hotel and music venue.

The group’s portfolio will double in size over the next few years.

Comiskey Group also put in a development application in August for a new hotel or club, indoor sport and recreation area, showrooms and restaurants or retail outlets at 90 Gympie Rd, Strathpine.

Located across from Pine Rivers Park, the Strathpine Gateway development was proposed to occupy more than four hectares of existing farmland with construction of the main indoor sport and recreation/showroom in the first stage of works.

The plans show two buildings covering 8530 sqm that will be used for indoor sport and recreation and could feature a gym and fitness studio, dance or martial arts studios, indoor sports courts, activity centres, amusement parlours and bowling alleys.

There would be a stand alone 220 sqm building used as a drive-through food outlet, plus a 1040 sqm restaurant precinct building that could accommodate a variety of food tenancies.

The food and drink drive-through was proposed as stage two of construction followed by restaurants and retail, a hotel/club and finally the second indoor sport recreation space/showroom.
