A development application for a ‘high quality’ gym has been proposed to form part of a $80 million business precinct in Moreton Bay, with only one week until the shopping centre’s grand opening.
Eildon Capital Group has lodged the application for a 1,500 sqm gym at 459 Pumicestone Road, Caboolture, the site of the $80 million Sungate Business Park, with the precinct’s grand opening on November 18.
The 15ha development, located next to the Bruce Highway will have 15 tenancies including: Coles, Chemist Warehouse, PetStock, an Indian restaurant, Japanese restaurant, KFC, nail salon, hair salon and spa, bakery and discount store.
The development application reads the ‘high quality’ gym would include space for cardio, circuit training, weights as well as a functional training space.
The gym would provide wellbeing facilities for members which includes hydrotherapy, a wellness room, spray room, total body fitness assessment rooms and massage rooms.
The gym is proposed to be open 24/7, with 120 carparks to service the gym and neighbouring shops.
“The proposed gym will contribute towards the range of activities and services provided for within the area, contributing to the growth of the region,’ the application reads.
“The current rates of provision for gyms are one for every 4,000 people.
“This rate of provision has doubled over the past nine years as the wider health and fitness industry has continued to grow.
“With 11 gyms in the catchment and a population of 55,783 people in 2021, there is currently an undersupply of approximately three gyms.
“Over the next decade the population of the catchment is expected to grow by nearly 12,000 people, resulting in demand for an additional three gyms in this area.”
A Caltex service station and McDonald’s were built at the business park in 2018 and 2020 and plans for a Red Rooster have also been approved.
A $32 million, 13,000 sqm Bunnings, with parking for 400 cars, is expected to open at the beginning of 2023 within the business park also.
Plans to build a KFC, equipped with a drive-through, at the site were approved by Moreton Bay Regional Council.
The business park will service the growing community of Elimbah and Moreton Bay.
