A Caboolture manufacturing company has gone into voluntary liquidation as new owners prepare to take over.
Steve Van Schagen has owned Sunbuster Solar Shades on Learjet Dr since about 2007 and says it’s finally time to pass the baton on.
Now in his 70s, Mr Van Schagen survived four open heart surgeries, the most recent of which was just last year.
He said it was time to sell up and focus on his health.
The company was put into voluntary liquidation on August 3, with new owners sent to operate under a new company name.
He said the new owner, who bought the business with his wife, already had more than a decade’s experience as a staff member at the local manufacturer.
“It’s progress I suppose,” he said.
“(It is) the transitioning of the company into young people’s hands.”
He said the business, which manufactures solar shades for caravans, would continue to trade as usual despite the administrative changes.
Mr Van Schagen and his wife Evelyn were also looking to on-sell neighbouring Sunbuster Caravans, which he said had done a roaring trade since COVID-19 both drove up demand from holiday makers looking to explore the country instead of the globe and also caused havoc with Victorian suppliers.
“People are turning to locally-made (caravans),” he said.
