A PIECE of Caboolture history was turned to rubble today afternoon.
Demolition works were today underway on the 96-year-old Baker’s Building at 24 King St, wiping if from the face of the region over which it had presided since 1924.
The building, just down from Caboolture courthouse, is believed to be making way for a Centrelink facility.
According to the Caboolture Historical Village the building, through the guidance of local businessman Dick Baker, became the first block of modern shops in Caboolture at the time.
Mr Baker also owned a hotel and a butcher shop in the main street.
Most recently, the building was renovated into office space and a restaurant, housing a list of local businesses including a real estate agent, lawyers, a chiropractor and Thai on Wok restaurant.
