Diesel mechanic’s slip into drug addiction then jail

A diesel mechanic who slipped into a heavy drug addiction has been dealt lengthy jail terms after a litany of charges for vehicle and weapons offences.

A DIESEL mechanic used other people’s cars to support his drug addiction, Caboolture Magistrates Court has heard.

Jaymee Leigh Walker, 29, was sentenced to 12 months jail after pleading guilty to eight counts of unlawfully possessing a motor vehicle with intent to deprive.

Walker also had a number of unauthorised weapons at his Wamuran home, and had also been found with illegal explosives.

The court heard the diesel mechanic had enjoyed a successful career working for a mining company however slipped into a depression after losing his job.

As a result Walker resumed a drug habit he had previously kicked, much to the shock of his wife.

Walker’s methamphetamine addiction coupled with prior form when it came to dishonesty offences lead the 29-year-old to rack up 18 charges, all of which were dealt with by way of a guilty plea today.

The myriad of offences included eight counts of unlawfully possessing a motor vehicle with intent to deprive, two weapons offences, three counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of unauthorised possession of explosives and one count each of possessing drug utensils, stealing and fraud.

Magistrate Peter Hasted said while Walker was “unlike most of the people that come before the court” thanks to a strong show of family support, he noted his indiscretions were “high end property offences...used to support your drug habit”.

Walker was sentenced to 12 months jail for each of the unlawfully possessing a motor vehicle charges.

He was also sentenced nine months jail for the receiving tainted property offences, as well as the fraud offence for which he was also ordered to pay $1000 in restitution and a range of shorter jail terms for the remaining offences.

Walker was given immediate parole having served 34 days in pre-sentence custody.

He is expected to later face the supreme court on drugs charges including possessing 25ml of GHB.
