Scarborough man busted driving while almost four times the legal limit

A Scarborough man who was caught driving a car while “rolling drunk” has copped a hefty fine.
Jamie Michael Sunderland appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court today and pleaded guilty to high range drink driving.
The court heard police spotted Sunderland swerving along Scarborough Rd, Scarborough, on June 19 at about 9.10pm.
Sunderland told police, after being pulled over, that he had consumed four midstrength stubbies of beer before making the decision to drive.
He recorded a breath alcohol concentration of 0.193 per cent.
Lawyer Dean Mayr said Sunderland, a tattoo artist, was only driving 3km down the road, but accepted that did not excuse his behaviour.
“With that reading he can’t drive out of his own driveway let alone along a public road,” Mr Mayr said.
The court heard Sunderland had a limited traffic history.

Magistrate Leanne Scoines said that with a reading like that Sunderland would have been “rolling drunk”.
She said that police pulled him over due to the nature of his driving.
“You were clearly a risk to other road users and yourself, (drink driving) is one of the biggest killers in Queensland,” Magistrate Scoines said.
He was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
No conviction was recorded.
