A young tradie has blamed his domestic violence offending on his victim, a court north of Brisbane has heard.
The Rothwell man, 32, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, pleaded guilty in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Friday, August 5, 2022, to five charges of contravening a domestic violence order.
The court heard he was already on six months’ probation for previous domestic violence offending, against the same victim, when he committed these offences.
All offending was between May 5, 2021, and September 17, 2021.
The court heard he was sentenced to six months’ probation on September, 8, 2021 for another five domestic violence charges which occurred between January 7, and April, 13, 2021.
His victim was his partner at the time, who he shared young children with.
The court heard there were numerous serious instances of violence and threats made against her from both groups of charges.
The court heard this included kicking her, kneeing her in the back, shoving her, pushing her over, choking her, shaking her while choking her, and slapping her across the face.
He also called her a ‘selfish c***’ and a ‘wh**e’, the court heard.
The court heard he said she was to blame for his actions, for the violence, and that wanted to harm himself.
The court heard he was also seeking to control her finances, who she could see, who she dated, and where she could go.
On one occasion he stole her mobile phone.
His lawyer, Mr Foster, told the court he was working as a tradesman at the time.
He was with the victim for three and a half years and the relationship is now over, Mr Foster told the court.
“He instructs it was a pretty messy break-up,” Mr Foster said.
Mr Foster told the court his client had completed an anger management program last year.
He was sentenced to 15 months’ probation for his offending. No convictions were recorded.
