It’s been revealed the Mount Cotton man killed in a motorcycle crash in Redland Bay at the weekend was once high up the ranks of an infamous Gold Coast bikie gang.

It is understood however, he was also part of the Finks for many years as a senior member although his full rank is unknown.

According to sources he left the gang and went into hiding at the start of this year after ‘standing up for what was right’ which other members did not like.

“Matt really tried to see the good in them,” a source said.

“But they took advantage of him.

“Luckily he had the means and the money to disappear,” another said.

Mr Bujnowicz’s criminal history can also be revealed. He faced Gladstone District Court in 2014, aged 28, and pleaded guilty to three counts of supplying meth and five counts of possessing paraphernalia.

At the time his mother and sister cried tears of relief as he was sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment.

Mr Bujnowicz was working as a tiler at the time and there was evidence of drug deals for 0.2g of speed, and one planned deal to sell 0.5g on his mobile phone in a drug raid in September 2013.

Defence lawyer Jordan Ahlstrand told the court back in 2014 that his client had been in a bad place when he started dealing to pay for his drug addiction and drug debts.

The court heard he had attempted suicide before moving to Gladstone and turned to meth to deal with the death of two friends.

Friends on social media said Mr Bujnowicz had a ‘huge heart’ and ‘generous nature’.

“Rip Matthew Bujnowicz. You definitely lived life harder and faster than anyone before you,” a friend shared.

“I will never forget everything you did for me.

“My heart is with you.”

“Rip Matt you were a beautiful soul,” another friend said.

The Forensic Crash Unit is still investigating the cause of the accident, with a source close to the family saying police have told them they do not suspect foul play.
