REDCLIFFE teenager Joshua Waite is clinging to life one week after he was allegedly kicked in the head outside a McDonald’s restaurant.

On Friday morning, his family said there had been no improvement in his condition.

Joshua, 17, was placed in an induced coma on May 12 after allegedly being kicked in the head outside a McDonald’s restaurant at Redcliffe, north of Brisbane.

His father Andy, mother Rachel, aunt, uncle and sister have been by his bedside, at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, all week — praying for a miracle.

Aunt Raiha Hooker said the family was struggling.

“He is still in an induced deep coma which allows his body to focus on repairing in the hope that he stabilises. It is a traumatic time and we are constantly on edge and just hoping for him to stabilise,” she said.

“Joshua has a big heart and is a kind gentle person.

“He is a really, really good kid, with a lot of friends and a lot of people who really care for him.”

Ms Hooker said the family was grateful for the support received from the community.

“The support we have had pouring in from the community, the love from family, and the high level of care, compassion and professionalism from the ICU staff in RBWH is what is getting Andy, Rach and Ashley through this heartbreaking time,” she said.

The 18-year-old Kippa-Ring man accused of the serious assault, Jake Ashley Law-Cobbo, appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.

Law-Cobbo’s bail application was denied. The matter was adjourned until July 5.
