THE family of the 17-year-old Redcliffe boy kicked in the head outside a McDonald’s restaurant on Friday night are by his side, telling him to rest and get strong.

Joshua Waite suffered severe head injuries during an incident allegedly involving a group of males in the Redcliffe McDonald’s car park at 7.45pm.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition and placed in an induced coma.

Joshua’s aunt Raiha Hooker is at the hospital along with his father Andy, mother Rachel, sister Ashley and uncle.

Ms Hooker said there had been no change to Joshua’s condition.

“It’s just a waiting game at the moment, all we can do is talk to Josh and tell him to rest and get strong,” Ms Hooker said.

Ms Hooker said it was a tough time for the whole family.

“It’s tough, not being able to anything to help him, its out of our hands,” she said.

“His mum and dad are struggling, it’s a very sombre time, we are just quiet, with shattered hearts, trying to be strong for each other.”

Ms Hooker has started an online fundraising page to help Joshua’s parents.

“I started this page to assist his mum and dad in getting to the hospital, toll fees, parking fees etc. The last thing I want them to have to think about each day is this cost,” she said.

“Money will also be used to help Joshua with his rehabilitation when he gets better.”

The Redcliffe Herald Facebook page has been inundated with messages of support, well-wishes and prayers for Joshua and his family.

Ms Hooker said the family was grateful for the support they had received.

The 18-year-old Kippa-Ring man charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Joshua Waite appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Monday.

Jake Ashley Law-Cobbo did not apply for bail when his case was mentioned.

Law-Cobbo, who was not brought into the court, will be held in the Redcliffe watch-house until Wednesday, when there may be a bail application.

Magistrate Mark Bucknall ordered a brief of evidence to be provided to the defence by June 26 and the case to return to court for a committal mention on July 5.
