A MAN, 18, charged with grievous bodily harm of a 17-year-old who was allegedly kicked in the head on Friday, was today remanded in custody.

Jake Ashley Law-Cobbo, who is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Joshua Waite, 17, did not apply for bail when his case was mentioned in Redcliffe Magistrates Court today.

Mr Waite was critically injured when he was allegedly kicked once in the head during a disturbance involving a group of males at a Redcliffe McDonald’s car park on Friday night.

He is in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, still in a critical condition and in an induced coma.

Law-Cobbo’s solicitor Andrew Ferrett said he would be seeking CCTV footage from the McDonalds’ carpark, in Anzac Ave, Redcliffe, and asked for the case to be mentioned again on Wednesday.

Law-Cobbo, who is from Kippa-Ring and was not brought into the court, will be held in the Redcliffe watch-house until Wednesday, when there may be a bail application.

Magistrate Mark Bucknall ordered a brief of evidence to be provided to the defence by June 26 and the case to return to court for a committal mention on July 5.

Mr Bucknall said the court file showed there were no acute mental health issues.

A large group of friends and supporters of Law-Cobbo were in court for the brief mention of the case.

Joshua’s grandmother Jenny-Lynne Garrett described him as “an amazing caring soul”.

Ms Garrett lives in New Zealand and said she just wanted to see her grandson “home safe”.

“My heart is breaking I feel so helpless being this far away,” she said.

She said Joshua’s father Andy has remained at his son’s bedside since Friday night’s attack.

“(Andy) is an amazing dad and I just want him to have all the support in the world,” Ms Garrett said.

Ms Garrett said the family would “always be there” for each other.

Joshua’s friends and family have also taken to social media to share memories and prayers of support.
