Police statistics reveal which Moreton suburbs have the highest rate of drug offences

A man charged with 60 counts of supplying drugs, another charged with trafficking ice and people growing cannabis in their bedrooms – find out which suburbs in the Moreton Police District have the highest rate of drug offences.

Australia's Growing Drug Crisis

During the past three years more than 13,700 drug offences have been recorded in the Moreton Police District – with one suburb at the top.

Statistics obtained from Queensland Police show between January to July in 2018, 2019 and 2020 Caboolture had the highest rate of drug offences than anywhere else in the police district – averaging 1143 charges.

Petrie came was second with 811 followed by Redcliffe with an average of 787.

In the first six months of this year 996 charges occurred in Caboolture, 867 in Petrie and 842 in Redcliffe.

While the number of charges have decreased in Caboolture and Petrie this year, when compared to 2019, it is on the rise in other suburbs.

The number of offences in Deception Bay rose from 498 in 2018 to 609 in 2020.

In Redcliffe it rose from 661 in 2019 to 842 this year.

Among those charged include 39-year-old Deception Bay man Andrew Fraser Gabbert.

He was arrested on July 17 and charged with more than 60 drug offences including alleged trafficking and supplying methylamphetamine, cannabis, GHB and LSD between April 8 and July 17, 2020.

Mr Gabbert’s matter is next due before the courts in September.

A 27-year-old Redcliffe man, Mitchell David Lollback, is facing 30 charges relating to the supply and trafficking of ice, cannabis and weapons offences.

He is next due in court on September 29 for a committal mention.

A 46-year-old Kallangur has been charged with 17 offences including obstructing police, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and weapons charges.

Redcliffe police arrested Aaron Paul Vass at Kippa-Ring Train Station on July 11.

A warrant had been issued for his arrest after he failed to appear at court on two different occasions on June 22 and February 24.

Vass is also charged with obstructing police, possession of a knife, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of entering a premise to commit an indictable offence, two counts of possessing a dangerous drug, stealing, possessing drug utensils, possessing explosives, a weapons charge, fare evasion and contravening a police direction.

Police uncovered a hydroponic cannabis lab in a house at Redcliffe while out searching for another wanted person.

The set-up was found inside a spare bedroom of a home at Hunter St, Redcliffe, on June 8.

Police were at the home looking for a wanted person, who had previously lived at the address.

But when Terrance Wayne George Cox, 47, opened the door police could smell cannabis.

There were five cannabis plants ranging from 20-50cm in height and chemicals and fertilisers in the cupboards.

Cox was charged with six drug offences including producing cannabis, two counts of possessing a dangerous drug, two charges for possession of items used to commit a crime and possession of utensils used in a drug offence.

Cox was fined $1200.

A conviction was not recorded.
