After more than a week since election day the new Moreton Bay Regional Council is starting to take shape but it is still not known who will be named Mayor.

Just more than 2 per cent – that is all that splits Peter Flannery and Chris Thompson in the race to be the next mayor of the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

It follows the retirement of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s only mayor Allan Sutherland.

The Electoral Commission of Queensland has made its way through 70 per cent of the votes. Postal voting forms were due to be back in by close of business today.

Cr Flannery was the councillor for Division 2 while Mr Thompson is new to local politics.

At the time of publishing Cr Flannery had secured 58783 of the votes counted so far. Mr Thompson 54209.

Cr Adrian Raedel (who is currently suspended due pending court matters) was third on the list with 31221 votes, followed by Dean Teasdale with 28175 and Eric Shields with 263901 votes.

Just four of the 12 divisional councillor seats have been officially declared by the ECQ.

Returning Cr Brooke Shields had a convincing win in Division 1.

As did current Cr Darren Grimwade in Division 11.

Denise Sims and Matt Constance were uncontested in Divisions 7 and 10.

Councillor Adam Hain is on track to win Division 3 again and Cr Mick Gillam is well ahead in the race for Division 8.

There will be a number of new faces around the table though.

Mark Booth looks certain to take Division 2, Jodie Shipway in Division 4 and Karl Winchester in Division 6.

Tony Latter also has a strong lead in Division 12.

Division 5 is still a three-person race between Sandra Ruck, Troy Fernandez and Peter Parkes.

There is less than 1 per cent separating current Deputy Mayor Mike Charlton and Cath Tonks in Division 9.
