The Belvedere Hotel is set to get its second major makeover in five years, with work on two new bars, a revamped function centre and new alfresco dining area to start in 2022.

The Woody Point landmark, which boasts views across the Bay, opened in the 1890s as a boarding house before it was converted into a hotel and pub in 1901.

It underwent a $2 million redevelopment in 2016.

This project included rebuilding the kitchen, making it bigger, and adding a centrally-positioned bar and coffee bar.

Lewis Land Group’s Queensland Regional Manager, Chris Allison, said it was now time to upgrade the southern side of the building.

It follows Lewis Land Group’s recent $3 million makeover of their new asset The Komo.

Mr Allison said the project at The Belvedere was about three times as big as The Komo makeover.

The renovation will include building a new downstairs bar, an upstairs bar, revamping the gaming lounge and function centre and creating an upstairs alfresco dining area to capitalise on the stunning views over the bay.

Mr Allison said once completed it would add an extra 300 seating spaces, with room for 100 people in the function centre.

“The big bar upstairs will become a real feature point,” Mr Allison said.

“It will be nice to get some of our function space back so we can cater for events again and increase our seating and dining capacity as well.

“It is a privilege that we have the demand that requires us to add additional seating.”

To keep up with demand the kitchen will also be extended and the pizzeria relocated.

“We employ about 220 staff between the two sites and this renovation will take us to the 250-300 mark,” Mr Allison said.

“The big bar upstairs will become a real feature point.

“It is a privilege that we have the demand that requires us to add additional seating.”

Renovations are due to start in between March and April next year and will be completed in time for Christmas.

The hotel will remain open during the renovation.

Local builders and architects have been engaged for the project.
