A 27-year-old bricklayer has faced a court north of Brisbane charged with horrific domestic violence against his partner, which allegedly played out in front of a young child.
The man appeared via video link in Caboolture Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 28, charged with eight domestic violence offences against his partner.
He has been charged with assaults occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence), choking/strangulation (domestic violence), two counts of common assault (domestic violence), two counts of stealing (domestic violence) and two counts of wilful damage (domestic violence).
The court heard on July 4, 2022, he was allegedly in the kitchen with his de facto partner at their Deception Bay home.
Police alleged he accused her of cheating and started to strangle her.
Allegedly, his partner then tried to use her phone to call police but he overpowered her and threw the phone aside.
The court heard he allegedly bent her over the stove before throwing her to the kitchen ground where he repeatedly kicked her in the torso, bruising her ribs.
A young child also living at the home then came into the kitchen, police alleged.
He allegedly told the child “go to your room or watch your mother die” while continuing to bash her, the court heard.
Police alleged the screaming and swearing was so loud that two neighbours heard.
The court heard he allegedly continued to strangle his partner even in front of the neighbours.
He wasn’t arrested until Wednesday, July 27, when he was charged with two counts of stealing (domestic violence).
He worked as a bricklayer and made approximately $1200 a week, the court heard.
Magistrate James Blanch released him on bail under very strict conditions including that he must reside at Morayfield, report to Caboolture Police three days a week, and not contact the victim or the two children who lived there.
