A Logan mother has shared a heartbreaking tribute on the two-week anniversary of the e-scooter crash which killed her 15-year-old son.
Yarrabilba State Secondary College student Lochlen Corcoran was involved in a tragic e-scooter crash on July 12 and despite emergency brain surgery and days of fighting, he succumbed to his injuries July 17.
The 15-year-old’s mother, Gemma Corcoran, said the anniversary of the accident hit her hard.
“Exactly two weeks ago I got a phone call no mother ever wants, that my boy had been in an accident on his scooter,” Mrs Corcoran posted on Facebook.
“I rushed to the scene of the accident … I drove down the road I could see my boy laying there … never in my life have I had a feeling of hopelessness not being able to help my baby or take away his pain.
“I was numb and next thing I remember was getting to the hospital and there were so many doctors around my boy.
“Two whole weeks of not hearing your voice … telling me ‘love you mum’ … of not giving you cuddles …. of our house being so quiet … of missing you my baby boy.
“The worst two weeks of my life.
“Mummy loves you so much my beautiful boy I miss you more than anyone will ever know and just wish things were different.
“I am so heart broken and empty without you my son you took a piece of me the day you grew your angel wings a piece of me that can never be fixed.”
The Corcoran family has since released funeral details on social media.
His funeral will be held on July 30 at 11am at Carbrook’s Great Southern Memorial Park.
Mrs Corcoran said the service would also be livestreamed.
Lochlen’s former rugby league club, the Browns Plains Bears, also gave a moving tribute to their fallen teammate with a minute’s silence before the weekend’s game.
The touching moment was shared on social media by a family friend.
“Our boys played their hearts out for our bro Lochlen,” she said.
“Today proved just how loved and respected Lokie was and we feel honoured and blessed that he was a part of our team and our bear’s family.
“We truly miss him.”
The club also took to social media to remember the former Bear.
“Lokie was an amazing beautiful boy loved by many with a heart of gold,” they said.
“His laugh is contagious and opened his arms to everyone and anyone.”
Mrs Corcoran said she was blown away by the club’s tribute.
“I don’t even have any words to describe how proud I am of all you boys and how proud Lokie would have been,” she said.
A Mackay West Tigers Rugby League club coach, Adrian Aslette, said their under-15 team also paid tribute to Lochlen over the weekend.
“Before the kick off we gathered in a huddle mid field and played our respect to Lochlen, wearing the black armbands in his memory,” he said.
“We still have quite a few members of the squad who played and went to school with Big Loc when he was here in Mackay and will forever be remembered in our club.
“I still remember the day Loc signed on, we actually thought he was in the next age group. He was such a hard runner of the ball, which I would imagine nothing had changed.
“I am proud to have coached Big Loc.”
