QLD's largest indoor play centre opens

Construction is underway on a huge 9000sqm indoor play centre north of Brisbane, featuring ninja courses, interactive climbing walls and more that kids dream of.

Lachlan and Jana Walker, the husband-and-wife team behind one of Queensland’s largest indoor play centres, Jungle Adventure Play at Tingalpa, are expanding to North Lakes with a new $20 million, an even bigger venture.

Work on the new two-level North Lakes indoor play facility is underway after City of Moreton Bay granted approval in June, with a planned opening before Christmas 2024.

Interactive climbing walls, a high ropes course, indoor playgrounds, ninja courses, a mini golf course, café, licenced restaurant and a Tiki bar will form the attractions at the 9945 sqm site, at 2 McLennan Ct, North Lakes, which will be Moreton Bay’s largest indoor play centre.

The new build and fit-out, being completed by Fore Group, begins on the back of incredible success at the Tingalpa venue, which has sold 450,000 tickets to date despite opening during the height of Covid.

“This figure represents who is playing, so when you add one or two parents into the mix, you could safely say we have had one million people through our doors in three years,” Mr Walker said.

“We’ve had tremendous community support and we’re excited to now be able to take our vision to provide safe, fun and sun-protected play for all ages to the North Lakes, and Moreton Bay, community.”

Mr Walker said Moreton Bay was identified as a major growth region, supported by a business-friendly council.

The North Lakes location was chosen due to the strong family demographic, with 43 percent of the suburb’s population being households with children.

“As a family-owned business, we understand the importance of connection and we want to align and grow with communities,” Mr Walker said.

“Not many projects like ours are family owned, and we are committed to benefitting the local community through providing not only another option for fun, but employment for locals.

“We offer a young, dynamic and exciting environment for our employees, who gain plenty of experience in a range of roles across the operation.”

Recruitment for the North Lakes centre will involve training new staff at the Tingalpa location ahead of time.

City of Moreton Bay earlier this year said the centre would deliver 100 jobs and add $4.3million annually to the local economy, via third party supply contracts and relationships in the community.

“Our data also shows that one in three people who come in is also a repeat customer, which gives us confidence we are delivering on our promise of exciting play options for all ages, along with quality food and drink in a clean, safe environment,” Mr Walker said.

In recognition of today’s time-poor families, Jungle Adventure Play is also looking to multiskill the venue, including a 520sq m tenancy for lease by a gym or wellness operator, as well as a five-bay car wash operator.

The Jungle Adventure Play centre at 31 Proprietary St in Tingalpa opened in 2020, a 6000 sqm space in total but 3000 sqm under roof.

It was a dream three years in the making for the Walkers, who thought of the idea after attending a bunch of children’s birthday parties..

Mrs Walker has previously said attractions are designed to help children build confidence and strength while still remaining challenging and fun
