A convicted ice trafficker assaulted a cop in a bold bid for freedom after her major meth bust, a court has heard.

A convicted methamphetamine dealer has fallen back into her old ways, after she was busted in possession of a commercial quantity of the drug during a Moreton Bay traffic stop.

Beerwah woman Julia-Kate Alison Sparks, 29, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday to aggravated possession of methamphetamine and serious assault of a police officer by way of resisting arrest.

The court heard both offences occurred on September 8 last year at Caboolture South.

Sparks and her passenger were pulled over for a licence check and police became suspicious when she was unable to explain her reason for being in the area at the time, the court heard.

Police witnessed a plastic clipseal bag in the footwell and detained the pair for a search.

Officers noticed a “bulge” in Sparks’ bra which was emitting a crinkling noise, but she refused to take out the package.

Sparks “maintained eye contact” with her associate, who was making subtle gestures at her.

The court heard Sparks’ associate “lunged” for a package in the car’s centre console and took off down the street.

He was apprehended and discovered in possession of $10,350 cash, the court heard.

As Sparks’ associate was decamping, she began “struggling violently” and broke free of police restraint.

She fled through a garden bed where she left the item contained in her bra, which was subsequently revealed to be 129g of crystal substance containing 76.11g pure meth.

Sparks was arrested and subsequently charged.

She fell to be sentenced yesterday, but the introduction at the eleventh-hour of a psychologist’s report which alleged certain facts relating to her associate’s involvement in the drugs meant the plea was unable to proceed as envisaged.

The matter was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed to enable the Crown and defence to conference.

Sparks was previously before the courts in 2014 for assisting her partner Michael David Scott traffic in ice at Buderim and Glenview on the Sunshine Coast.

She was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for an operational period of three years.

Scott was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, with parole-eligibility set after he had served two years.
