WATCH: E-scooters allegedly taken from fire-ravaged storage facility

Footage has emerged of two people allegedly looting e-scooters from a fire-ravaged storage facility as investigations into the blaze continue.

CCTV footage has captured the dramatic moment two individuals wearing balaclavas allegedly loot e-scooters from a fire-ravaged storage facility.

The Courier-Mail has exclusively obtained footage of the alleged theft from the Storage King Burpengary facility.

This comes as police continue to investigate the blaze that destroyed 188 units last month.

The site has been blocked off since a fire tore through the facility on Wednesday, June 11, destroying 188 units.

The footage shows two people wearing balaclavas walking into one of the units and riding away on e-scooters.

Storage King’s terms and conditions prohibit tenants from storing hazardous or dangerous items in their units. Specifically, tenants “(c) must not store any Goods that are hazardous, dangerous, illegal, stolen, flammable, explosive, environmentally harmful, perishable, living, or that are a risk to the property of any person.”

However, e-scooters are not explicitly included in this list.

Judy Wilson-Hewitt, a resident affected by the fire, said she is “disappointed” with how the incident has been handled.

“I feel compelled to express my deep disappointment in the way this situation has been handled. The lack of transparency, poor communication, and questionable decision-making by site management have only added to the distress & anger experienced by many of us,” she said.

“All unit holders deserve answers and fair treatment — not secrecy, misinformation, and neglect.”

In a statement provided to unit holders on July 3, Storage King Burpengary revealed the e-scooters were allegedly taken from the facility on June 26.

“We can confirm this controlled access arrangement was triggered when a single storage unit in the 100s was broken into at around 11pm last Thursday night,” the statement reads.

“The matter was immediately reported to police, CCTV footage was provided, and we are assisting with enquiries. It is extremely disappointing.

“An on-site security presence has been in place since the fire and will remain until the perimeter fences and gate are operational again. The site has active alarms and CCTV. We have reviewed security and made appropriate adjustments.”

A Queensland Police Spokeswoman said the incident is under investigation.

“Investigations indicate that around 10:50pm, two people have attended the Old Gympie Road address before gaining access to a storage shed at the property,” she said.

“The pair have removed two e-scooters from the shed, before fleeing the area with them.”

Investigations into the blaze and the alleged theft continue, with police now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
