A grieving pet owner busted for drug driving said it was the death of her cat that made her smoke cannabis.
Swimming instructor, Tiegan Dianne Nicholson, pleaded guilty in Pine Rivers Magistrate Court to one count of drug driving.
The court heard the Belgravia Leisure swimming instructor was found sitting in the driver’s seat of her car with the windows down at 5.14pm on February 2 in Griffin when police conducted a roadside saliva test.
The court heard the test returned a positive result and analysis revealed the woman had cannabis in her system.
Nicholson held a provisional licence at the time.
Police alleged she had no reason to be in the car.
Nicholson’s lawyer said she had been smoking the drug after suffering the loss of her pet cat the previous day.
Nicholson was fined $500 and disqualified for holding or obtaining a licence for three months.
A conviction was recorded.
