A grieving widower says ‘every day is like groundhog day’ as he struggles to comprehend the death of his wife of more than four decades after a crash stole her life.
Robyn Richards died after a car crash in the Moreton Bay region on December 11 last year.
A 47-year-old Griffin woman has since appeared in court charged with manslaughter following the fatal accident.
Shelley Louise Brumby was identified as the driver of a car allegedly involved in a head-on collision on Wagner Rd, Griffin, about 6pm.
Mrs Richards’ heartbroken husband of 48 years, Kevin, has paid tribute to his beautiful and loving wife.
“She was as fit as a fiddle, still working and still paying taxes,” he said.
“She would go to the gym every day and she was never sick – she might have been 66 but she felt 40.
“She was independent and full of life.”
The 66-year-old was just two weeks away from retiring from her job at Coles at Murrumba Downs when she passed away.
She was also in the middle of planning her next great adventure, a trip sadly she will never get to take.
“She used to travel to Europe every year, she loved travelling around for months – she’d come back with all these photos,” Mr Richards said.
“She must have gone to the Louvre three or four times.
“I found all the papers she was planning her next trip for 2022, it was all planned.”
Mrs Richards also leaves behind two daughters and a granddaughter.
“It’s affecting them but more so my granddaughter – they were really close,” he said.
“The night before (the accident) she spent here and slept with grandma in grandma’s bed and I used another bed and then they got up early and went to SeaWorld.
“She had just dropped her off, my daughter lives nearby and was coming home, she had only gone 100 yards down the road (when the accident happened).”
Mr Richards says his grieving has been made that much harder due to the case against his wife’s alleged killer being prolonged.
“It’s crazy ...it’s like groundhog day for me every day is the 11th of December 2020, over and over again,” he said.
“I’ve got a life sentence.”
The 68-year-old has been to every mention both in Pine Rivers and Brisbane.
“We’re on the bottom rung of the ladder, it’s crazy and sickening,” he said.
Brumby has yet to enter a plea.
She’ll next appear in the Brisbane District Court on November 12.
