A woman who walked past an alleged armed robber just moments after they allegedly held up a nearby business thought the gloves and mask he was wearing meant he was immunocompromised and protecting from Covid.
The witness was among a list of shocked locals who took to social media about the robbery which is understood to have happened at a Dakabin service — located close to a number of homes.
The witness said she passed a man matching the description of a person also caught on CCTV around the same time as the alleged robbery.
“There was a guy walking from 7/11 way towards Woolies,” she said.
“Was in full black get up with a black jumper, tracksuit pants, black gloves and a black and white face mask.
“I noticed because it was hella suspicious.
“He looked down as someone walked past him and then looked back up.
“I remember because his face mask was so long... it covered from just below his eyes, down under his chin and all along so you couldn’t see any skin.
“And then I noticed the gloves. I was like, ‘is he going to go rob something?’
“And then I was like ‘nah, he is probably just immunocompromised and worried about Covid’.”
Meanwhile, a north Brisbane cafe has released disturbing footage of the alleged robber just seconds after the hold up.
Flow Cafe at Dakabin has released footage of a masked person — alleged to be connected with an armed robbery nearby — running through its outdoor dining area, past elderly diners at their Leigh Crescent premises.
“Daylight robbery, literally,” the cafe commented.
It is understood the person was running from the nearby 7-Eleven service station.
The person, understood to be a man, was wearing black pants and a hooded jumper, a face mask and gloves.
Police confirmed they were investigating a reported armed robbery near Flow Cafe around 10.25am yesterday.
They said the person allegedly entered a business and told staff they were armed however did not produce a weapon.
The allegedly took a sum of cash before making off with the money.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
