Family of fatally-stabbed teen haunted by unanswered questions

Two 14-year-old boys were charged with the murder of Angus Beaumont in March. Their young age means the victim’s family may never truly know what happened to their “best mate”.

The heartbroken family of Redcliffe teenager Angus Beaumont who died of a fatal stab wound is speaking out against the Queensland justice system ahead of the appearance in court on September 7 of the two teens accused of his murder.

Angus, 15, was walking home from McDonald’s just after 8pm on Friday, March 13 when police allege he was stabbed in the chest by two 14-year-old boys.

He died at Redcliffe Hospital a short time later.

His mother, Michelle Beaumont, was allowed just 30 minutes to sit with her son before he was taken away.

“I put my cheek to his cheek, and I held his hand, but I was told I couldn’t hug him because it was evidence,” she said through tears.

“It wasn’t enough.”

For five long months, father and “best mate” Ben Beaumont has searched for answers, frustrated by a legal system that will not communicate the details of the case for fear of compromising the confidentiality of the alleged juvenile offenders.

“We know nothing, and we can’t go to the trial,” Mr Beaumont said.

“I had to go door knocking to try to find out what happened to my son.”

Mrs Beaumont still lies awake at night haunted by thoughts of her son’s final moments.

“When did he draw his last breath? Did he make it to the hospital? Did he suffer?” she asked.

“It is an act of cruelty to have to search for answers as you wade through your grief, it’s like crawling over shattered glass.”

Mr Beaumont was able to track down the man who tried to save his son’s life, a stranger who does not wish to be named.

“He told me he saw my son on the ground and heard his friend screaming and yelling, ‘He’s been stabbed!’,” Mr Beaumont said, fighting back tears.

“He lifted his shirt up and then he pushed on his chest (to perform CPR) and his chest … his chest just exploded.

“Police came and took over the resuscitation process but he wasn’t breathing since he’d been stabbed right in the heart.”

The Beaumont family is advocating to be allowed into the upcoming murder trial on compassionate grounds, so they may finally have insight into their son’s final, fearful moments.

“It will be hard to hear about his death, but not knowing is even worse,” Mr Beaumont said.

“There was no real goodbye, my whole family has been destroyed, and I will never have grandchildren.”

Touching tribute to Redcliffe teen killed in stabbing attack

The Facebook page, Justice for Angus Richard Beaumont, aims to draw attention to Angus’s case and links to a Change.org petition that hopes to give victims’ families a greater voice.

“All we can do is try to change for the future and prevent this from happening to another family,” Mr Beaumont said.

“In the end, nothing is going to bring my kid back.”
