Excitement as Sesame Lane’s Deepa Tomar named Redcliffe’s best childcare worker

Sesame Lane’s Deepa Tomar has came out on top in our Facebook reader poll in which we asked you to name Redcliffe’s best childcare worker.

Deepa Tomar was lost for words after learning she had been crowned Redcliffe’s best childcare worker.

Ms Tomar, who’s been working at Sesame Lane Care and Kindergarten in Clontarf for just over a year, told the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald she still couldn’t believe it.

“Oh, it feels great. To [those] who voted [for] me, I just wanted to say thank you. I feel really blessed.

“It means what I’m doing, I’m doing good.”

Asked what her favourite part about being a childcare worker was, Ms Tomar replied: “Oh, I love everything. I work in the nursery and I love the kids.

“I love the Clontarf centre, everyone is amazing.”

Meanwhile Centre Manager Therese Thomson said she couldn’t think of a more deserving candidate for the title.

“She is just one of those people that goes the extra mile,” Ms Thomson said, explaining that Ms Tomar, who is of Indian descent, likes to share her rich cultural background with the children and their families by regularly bringing in dishes.

“Deepa is a kind and generous lady. She’s just what you want from an educator.”
