Bomb squad called to reports of homemade bomb in Burpengary

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.

Police investigated reports of a homemade bomb in Burpengary on Thursday after an explosion on Findlay St.

A spokeswoman from the Queensland Police Service said police located a small fire in a wheelie bin at around 9.30am.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to assist at 10.30am but left shortly afterwards at 10.45am.

A spokeswoman for QFES said the crew was not required to take any action as the fire had been quickly contained.

Specialist officers from QPS and EORT attended as a precaution and deemed the area safe after several hours.

They were unable to determine whether the explosion was deliberate or not.
