Thieves have been targeting homes and cars in Brisbane’s north, where new data from Pine Rivers police reveals a total of 56 reported break ins, or attempted break ins, over the past month.
The worst affected suburbs are Kallangur and North Lakes, each reporting a total of nine break-ins, or attempted break-ins, in September.

According to police, in Kallangur this included the theft of a Mitsubishi Lancer from Boardman St, money from Aquarius St, a Toyota Corolla and a box trailer from Anzac Ave and a Ford Falcon from Dalray St.
Doors were “attacked” to gain access to homes on Glendon Court and Dohles Rocks Rd, though the Pine Rivers police noted a number of other methods of breaking in, including through doggie doors and garages.
Everything from confectionery, to vacuum cleaners, were reported stolen in North Lakes, with thieves gaining entry through open doors, by forcing screen doors off their hinges, or by smashing windows.
College St, Bridgeport Dr, Tarong Ave, Copeland Dr and Endeavour Blvd were each hit by thieves, with the vast majority of offences reported to have occurred overnight.
Kallangur resident Elisha Fox said she feels scared and unsafe in her home after someone broke into her shed and stole a child’s scooter last week.
It was the second such occurrence, after several items went mysteriously missing from the alfresco dining table the week before.
Mrs Fox said she and her husband initially entertained the idea that perhaps they’d misplaced the items, or that an animal had come during the night to take them, but now it seems more likely someone is “scoping the place out while we sleep”.
“We don’t mind if the scooter is missing, they probably needed it more than we did, but I don’t like that in the middle of the night, when we’re sleeping, people could be sussing out our shed, our garage, or our home,” she said.
“They could get in the house and attack us in our sleep.”
The family chose not to report the break-in to police, instead opting to alert their neighbours via a Facebook community page, indicating the number of break-ins may be higher than the official reports can account for.
Mrs Fox said the theft prompted her family to amp up their security, buying spotlights, surveillance cameras and ensuring they’re no longer complacent about closing the main gate, or locking up at night.
“We got too comfortable,” she said.
“I’m no longer taking the risk.”
